I remember the way I tried to push you away like it was going to protect me.

Like if I made you feel small…you wouldn’t see how broken I actually was.

I said things I don’t even believe.Cold things. Sharp things.

The kind of words you don’t take back…you just hope someone loves you enough to ignore.

And you did.

You didn’t argue.You didn’t match my energy.You didn’t leave.

You just stayed.

I don’t think men understand what that does to a woman.

When she’s being difficult on purpose…and you don’t abandon her for it.

It doesn’t make her feel powerful.

It makes her feel safe.

And that’s the part I wasn’t ready for.

Because safety means you have something to lose.

And I’ve lost enough to know better.
